REGION - Grampians Tourism has launched an innovative social media campaign using the popular Instagram platform to share the region's highlights in spring.
Instagrampians is a major initiative for Grampians Tourism in 2013, and local residents are encouraged to get on board and showcase their part of the Grampians region.
Grampians Tourism CEO Will Flamsteed is thrilled to be leading the way as one of the first Victorian regional tourism bodies to deliver a season long campaign using Instagram.
"We look forward to seeing some great posts from visitors and locals alike experiencing the best of the region; whether they be bushwalking, taking in the views at a winery, sampling great local produce or checking out many of the other attractions here," Mr Flamsteed said.
Instagram users can upload photos of their experiences in the region to November 28 and mention @thegrampians and hashtag #grampiansinspring to win a weekly prize of $100 gift card from Patagonia or the major prize, a digital SLR camera and accessories from Nikon.
To promote public involvement in the campaign several leading Instagrammers, including travel blogger Lauren Bath who has the largest Instagram following in Australia, will be visiting and posting their experiences over the coming months.
Instagram is currently the fastest growing social media platform in Australia with 1.5 million active users nationally. Instagram use has grown 20 fold in the past 12 months. Tourism Australia is ranked number one for hashtag usage in Australia, proving potential for Instagram in tourism marketing.
The Grampians Tourism region covers the municipalities of Ararat, Horsham, Pyrenees, Northern and Southern Grampians. It is estimated that tourists spend approximately $175 million in the Grampians region per year, which generates a direct and indirect economic impact of nearly $224 million.
