STAWELL - The Stawell Yacht Club is gearing up for a special 2013-2014 sailing season.
This summer will mark the club's 60th anniversary of service to the Grampians region.
The Lake Fyans based club is planning to celebrate this milestone early in 2014.
With current water levels at the lake at a respectable 82 percent, the club's committee and members are looking forward to the start of the new season.
The first race on the calendar will be its traditional 'Ice Breaker' event on Sunday, October 6.
This year's club calendar will include a 'Discover Sailing Day' event in mid-November for those wishing to come along for a sail with free access to the club's facilities.
Other planned events include a structured 'Learn to Sail' weekend for beginners in late November and a round of the Western Region Regatta in early February 2014.
The club will also be holding its regular trophy and pennant races most Sundays throughout the season.
Winners from last season's pennant series were in attendance at a recent club event at Lake Fyans.
Showing off their trophies were Johno Knight who was awarded third place with a total of 22 points, outgoing club commodore Peter Knight in second place with 18 points and Jan Ibs von Seht who sailed his Impulse class dinghy named 'Germanater' into first place with a handicap corrected points score of 16.
Races throughout the season were hotly contested with a number of outright winners listed in the results.
Many thanks go to George Grellet as onboard co-ordinator for calculating and maintaining the race results for the entire season and Glen Wellard for her on shore time keeping duties, which without her input would of made it impossible to determine the calculated handicap winners.
