MDFL - Rhodes Plumbing Great Western Lions reserves are Mininera and District Football League premiers following an historic win over Wickliffe/Lake Bolac on Saturday at Mininera.
In just their second year since coming out of recess, Lions completed the remarkable turn around after defeating the Magpies by 36 points.
Great Western president, Rodney Matheson, was lost for words when asked what Saturday's premiership meant for the club.
"Two years in from being out of recess and to not win a game last year, I just can't believe it to be honest," Mr Matheson said.
Lions were kicking against the breeze in the first term and managed to level the scores at quarter time.
Coach Damien Scott implored his charges to not to overdo the handballs and kick the ball out in front of the forwards.
Great Western responded, booting 3.1 and held Wickliffe/Lake Bolac scoreless to lead by 19 points at the main break.
Lions then controlled the second half, piling on eight goals to three to be crowned 2013 Mininera reserves premiers, 14.8 (92) to 8.8 (56).
Ruckman Craig Cooper took home the Kerrin Peters Memorial Medal for best on ground.
"This one is just not for the club, but for the whole community," Mr Matheson said.
