STAWELL - A woman aged in her fifties was killed when the car she was driving left Navarre Road on Tuesday and struck a tree.
The woman, who was the sole occupant in the Toyota hatch, is believed to have lost control after rounding a bend, then over-corrected.
The vehicle left the road and ploughed into a ditch, before slamming into a group of trees. The driver's side of the vehicle took the full impact of the crash.
Acting Sergeant Shaun Allen said police were investigating whether or not fatigue, or distraction, may have played a part in the accident, which occurred about seven kilometres from Stawell along Navarre Road shortly before 2pm.
The driver, who police believed was on her way into Stawell for work, died at the scene.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
