STAWELL - Stawell Orchid Society staged its annual Winter Show last Sunday at Laidlaw Park.

A large number of plants were entered into the show and were judged by members of the Orchid Societies Council of Victoria judging panel.
Grand Champion orchid of the show was awarded to a magnificent paphiopedilum, La Hond 'In Charm' x spicerianum 'St Alban' much to the delight of proud owner John Welsh.
This orchid also won champion first flowering seedling orchid of the show and champion paphiopedilum of the show.
Other major award winners were: Reserve champion of the show - Brad and Joy Scott, champion any other genera of the show - Max and Val Kennedy, champion Australian native orchid of the show - Bernadette and Michael Matthews, champion laelinae orchid of the show - Pat and Bob Turmine, champion cymbidium of the show - Anne Gardiner, champion species orchid of the show - Brad and Joy Scott, champion specimen of the show - Pat and Bob Turmine.
The free luncheon was enjoyed by all who attended, after which guest speaker Peter Miller from 'Hanging Baskets' in Melbourne instigated a hands on workshop which enabled all present to mount an orchid onto a tree fern slab using the method they use to grow their magnificent orchids and ferns.
The next meeting of the Stawell Orchid Society will be held in their meeting rooms at Laidlaw Park in Patrick Street on Friday, September 6 commencing at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
