REGION - Three members of the Seppelt Great Western vineyard team ventured over the border to Auburn in South Australia's Clare Valley, to compete in the South Australian Pruning Championship.
The event, organised by the Clare Wine Region Grape Growers Association, was held on Friday, July 26.
Kilikanoon Vineyard hosted the competition and forty individuals and eleven teams of three, competed in events including the Electrocoup Individual Spur, the Kilikanoon Individual Rod and Spur and the Taylors Team Speed Spur.
The Seppelt Snippers team from Great Western consisting of Jeff Elliott, Patrick Hall and Malcolm Boatman had a successful day finishing third in the team spur event.
Jeff Elliott excelled in the individual spur event recording the equal second fastest time of the forty competitors and finishing in third place overall.
Judges commented that pruning in all events was of a higher standard than the previous year and times were much faster.
Two teams from Victoria joined competitors from several South Australian wine regions to compete for the Wolf Blass Shield which was won by the Clare Valley's Ryan Longmire, who dominated the day winning all three events by close margins.
