REGION - Residents who are looking for a healthier lifestyle, but need some friendly motivation are being encouraged to take part in a Get in Shape Lifestyle Challenge this April.
Following the success of last year's Lifestyle Challenge, Stawell Regional Health (SRH) and Grampians Community Health (GCH) will again join forces to run the 12 week program for people of all abilities and fitness levels.
SRH Health Promotion Coordinator Katrina Toomey said this year's challenge would focus on being 'more active'.
"Depending on what your personal goals are - to lose weight, reduce stress, or just feel better about yourself - the Lifestyle Challenge will help you become more healthy and active in a fun and friendly environment," she said.
"Each week we'll enjoy a different activity and participants can move at their own pace."
The program comes under GCH's long-running 'Active for Life' program, a volunteer-run initiative offering exercise classes to the local community.
"The Allied Health team at SRH is very excited to partner with the GCH Active for Life program," Ms Toomey said.
"The volunteers do a fantastic job of making everyone feel welcome and enjoy the activities.
"Some great results have come out of this program in the past, with many participants proud of themselves for making the effort and sticking to their healthy lifestyle goals."
Each participant will get a 45-minute personal one-on-one consult with a health professional to register and set their goals before starting the challenge.
As part of the Get in Shape Lifestyle Challenge, every fortnight health professionals will offer a practical workshop after the exercise session covering topics like physical activity, food choices, prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, motivation and good mental health.
The program will start on Monday, April 15 and run from 10am to 11am at the Stawell Leisure Complex.
It will run for 12 weeks and the cost is $2 per session. Interested participants are asked to register before Monday, March 25.
