STAWELL - The owner of a stolen 1964 Ford Fairlane American Compact Classic has asked for its safe return.
The classic car was stolen from the Proctor Street property some time between 10.30pm last Wednesday night and 10am the following morning.
"It really breaks my heart, I love it, it's my baby," she said.
Jackie Davey said the perpetrators had gone to a lot of trouble to remove the vehicle from the backyard of the residence.
"They have cut the locks on fences and gates that are six feet high," she said.
"I just feel sick in the stomach, to think that some one or some people have been in our backyard and we didn't hear a thing."
The battery wasn't in the vehicle at the time of the theft meaning the offenders have gone to great lengths to ensure its removal from the backyard.
Ms Davey has had the vehicle for about ten years ,but had it up for sale in recent months.
"I've had it since before I moved to Stawell seven years ago and thought it would be good to see how much I could get for it," she said.
Ms Davey planned to take the vehicle to this weekend's Jailhouse Rock Festival in Ararat.
"I haven't been able to take it out as often as I use to, but I thought it would be a good idea to give it a run in Ararat," she said.
"It usually sits in the garage, but we left it in the backyard because we were working on it preparing for this weekend's show."
Ms Davey said people had come from all over to look at the car valued at $18,000 which has been showcased in a number of club runs over the years.
She said anyone who may have seen the vehicle should contact the police as it would be hard to miss.
"It is so eye catching because it is red with a white roof, has bench seats and a leather interior front and back," she said.
"I really hope whoever has taken it hasn't done so to strip it."
Anyone who has seen the vehicle or has any information should contact Stawell Police on 5358 8222.
