Tennis finals open tonight

STC - Competition is set to be fierce tonight when four teams clash in the senior Stawell Tennis Club preliminary finals.

Frewstal and Stawell Joinery have been the benchmark all season and are on track to meet in the grand final should they prevail over Cassidy Painting and Stawell Gold Mines.

Frewstal were impressive last week, putting on a ruthless performance and top players Shane Field and Madi Cross will be asking the same again from their charges ahead of tonight's final.

Frewstal's Mitch Collins, Treen Slorach and Narelle O'Shannessy are definitely ones to watch, while for Cassidy Painting Jamie Bach and John Griffiths are hoping to build on their good form.

Sisters Madi and Jade Cross are set to continue their rivalry on the court while it will also be a battle of the Matthews women with mother and daughter Colene and Kristy lining up against each other.

Stawell Joinery will be out to turn the tables on Stawell Gold Mines after suffering a loss just last week.

Joinery finished the season in the top two on the ladder and leaders Howard Dunn and Sue Blakey wouldn't want to see it end a week early.

Blakey and Anna Sullivan suffered a narrow loss to Megs Mitchell and Tracey Dark and are out to reverse the result, while in the men's it will once again be a battle between Nathan McConnell/Les McLeod and Richard Blakey and Nev Routley.

Gold Mines Richard Blakey and Jake Stainsby are going to throw down a challenge to their opponents including Nathan McConnell, Harry Driscoll and Paul Carson.

Stawell Tennis Club presentation night will be held at the clubrooms on Saturday, March 16 at 6pm.

Entry is $20 per adult, $15 for secondary school students and $5 for primary students.

Tickets are on sale from Kate Reading, who can be contacted on 0439 479 994.
