STAWELL - It may have been the heat, or the threat of thunder and lightning, or perhaps it was the fact that it was Valentine’s Day and parents were preparing for a romantic dinner, but numbers of competitors were well down at last Thursday's Stawell Little Athletics events at North Park.
There were some solid performers on the night.
Jarli Blackmore continued his preparation for the regional track and field events in a fortnight with a strong hit out in his favoured events, and Hayley Little continued her remarkable season of improvement with four personal bests in the four events she participated in.
The centre took possession of its new track and field uniforms on Thursday night.
These were required by new Little Athletics Victoria regulations to be able to compete at regional, state and national track and field championships. Stawell Little Athletics were very pleased that the Stawell Athletics Club gave their consent for the uniforms to incorporate the dynamic flames that form part of the iconic Stawell Gift 'running man' brand logo.
The new Stawell Little Athletics uniforms will be seen on the track for the first time at Warrnambool Regional Track and Field Championships on February 24 and 25.
It is hoped when the new Stawell Little Aths uniform is seen tearing down the track that people instantly identify with the Stawell Gift and Stawell as having a great athletics history and being the home of world famous Stawell Logo.
Good luck is wished to Jarli, Isabella and Beau in representing Stawell.
This is a crucial time of the year for athletes who aspire to achieve a participation trophy from Stawell Little Athletics.
With only four weeks of competition still to go 33 athletes have already qualified but just as many can still qualify if they come to some or all of the events.
If athletes have missed the last couple of competitions then it is time to come and compete, check your progress and get some reward for the hard efforts that have already been put in.
New members are still welcome to join or to come and try, especially young athletes who may have just turned five.
Competition starts at 5.15pm each Thursday at North Park, and a barbecue tea is always available.
