The utility crashed into a powerpole in Seaby Street causing extensive damage to signage and the utility’s front. The driver suffered a punctured lung as a result of the accident and was flown to Melbourne for treatment.
STAWELL - A Stawell man had to be airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne following a single vehicle accident on Friday afternoon in Seaby Street.
The driver was travelling in his utility up Seaby Street when he left the road and struck a powerpole outside the Diamond House.
Extensive damage was caused to the vehicle, while street signage was knocked over and a power box came loose as a result of the impact.
Stawell Ambulance Station manager, Wayne Rice, said the driver informed ambulance personnel and witnesses at the scene, that he lost concentration for a few seconds and this resulted in him failing to negotiate the right hand bend.
As a result of the accident, the driver suffered a punctured lung and facial injuries. He was conveyed to Stawell Hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma.
The punctured lung was stabilised and the man was placed on the ambulance airwing helicopter and conveyed to Melbourne. Mr Rice said the man was in a serious, but stable condition.
