Catching yabbies for a good cause 

HALLS GAP - The first Ricky Redford yabby catching competition will be held at the Halls Gap Hotel next month.

The inaugural event on February 3 was named in honour of Ricky Redford, a young man killed in a car accident.

Entry fee is $50 per team with a maximum of five people in a team. The competition will kick off at 7am with the official weigh-in held at the Halls Gap Hotel from 1pm.

Registration forms are available from Stawell Sportspower, Ararat Sports Biz and the Halls Gap Hotel.

On the day there will be a monster raffle and mega yabby feast along with discounted drinks for entrants between 1pm and 4pm.

There will be three prizes handed out over the course of the afternoon.

The first prize, a 500 kilogram steer donated by Grampians Limousin will be awarded to the team who catches the 'Biggest Yabby'.

Ten slabs of Carlton Draught donated by the Halls Gap Hotel will be given to the team with the 'biggest total catch'.

Third prize, for the 'second biggest yabby' caught will be two night's accommodation by the beach at Port Macdonnell, donated by Stawell Bobcat and Excavation.

Sponsors for the event include Grampians Limousin, Halls Hap Hotel, Halls Gap Bakery, Baulderstone, Pykes Pets and Cycles, Evolution Tree Surgery, Stawell AutoPro, Stawell Bobcat and Excavation and Stawell Sportspower.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal.
