Annual bowls carnival at Stawell a success

STAWELL - Another very successful Stawell Golf Bowls Club annual carnival has just been completed.

The club welcomed bowlers from Heidelberg, Melbourne, Ringwood, Bundoora, Bell Post Hill, Horsham City, Murtoa, Rupanyup, Ararat, Ararat V.R.I., Aradale, Landsborough, Stawell and many players from Stawell Golf.

A total of 160 bowlers took part in the competitions over the three days of the carnival and tournament director Len Hunter praised the efforts of green supervisors Vince Phelan, Andrew Reading and Bruce Blenheim for making the carnival a resounding success.

Winners of the mixed triples on the first day were Allan Smith, Joy Seeary and Joe Cincotta with the winners trophy was sponsored by Stawell and Ararat Farm Supplies.

Runners up in this event were Gary Blackman, Barbara Matthews and Mike Burrett taking home the trophy sponsored by Stawell Craft Shop.

Special prizes for resting touchers in first game sponsored by Commonwealth Bank, went to Steve O'Donnell and Allan Smith.

Barry Werry, Edna Reading and Noel Raeburn had the largest winning margin in the last game and took home the trophy sponsored by Landmark.

The raffle prizes on the first day were sponsored by Stawell Auto Pro, Commonwealth Bank and Stawell Golf Bowls Club and the winners were Eleanor Reid, Ian Snibson, Brendan Kaczynski, Kevin Duane and Ron Davies.

Day two events included men's and ladies pairs, Dawn Blackman and Denise Troeth were the ladies winners sponsored by Ruth Haines.

Dulcie Molan and Ellen Werry took home the runners up trophy sponsored by Muriel Hart and Dulcie Molan.

Highest winning margin in the last game, trophy sponsored by Landmark were Esma Wood and Mavis Janetski.

Dulcie Molan won the resting toucher prize sponsored by Commonwealth Bank.

Winners of the men's pairs were Brendan and David Kaczynski, trophy sponsored by the Gift Hotel. Bruce Blenheim and Barry Werry were runners up, taking home the trophy sponsored by David O Jones Mitre 10.

Brian Hurley won the Commonwealth Bank resting toucher trophy.

Kevin Duane and Bob Power won the Landmark special trophy for the biggest winning margin in the last game.

Raffle winners were Ruth Haines, John Bray, Patricia Prins, Ron Davies, Iain Maclean and Len Hunter.

Raffle sponsors were Mr. Len Hunter, Stawell Golf Bowls Club and Commonwealth Bank.

The final day of the carnival was the very popular mixed medley event sponsored by Grampians Pharmacy.

Winners were Neville Bates, Lorraine Bates, Jon Holwell and Lynne Holwell.

Runners up were Bruce Blenheim, Ellen Werry, Barry Werry and Kerri West, taking home the trophy sponsored by Westway Nursery.

Winners of the highest winning margin in the last game sponsored by Landmark, were Kevin Duane, Barbara Matthews, Bob Power and Gwen Power.

Winners of the resting toucher prizes sponsored by The Commonwealth Bank were Ellen Werry and Joan Smythe.

Raffle winners on the last day were Ann Reading, Gwen Power, Noel Raeburn, Norm Duxson, Bob Power, Keith Haymes, Len Hunter and Edna Reading.

Bruce Blenheim, Stawell Golf Bowls Club and The Commonwealth Bank sponsored the raffle.

Again Len Hunter has organised a very successful carnival and the club appreciates the many sponsors, without this support these events would not be possible.
