Vandals were active

STAWELL - Stawell Police are seeking information from any witnesses to an act of vandalism in Main Street early last Saturday.

At approximately 3.30am on Saturday, police were called to Main Street in relation to a number of bins that had been moved onto the road.

Four bins had been removed from their steel housings, dragged out and dumped onto the road, spilling rubbish, some of which was glass and creating a traffic hazard.

In addition to this vandalism, a large pot containing a plant was pushed over onto its side by the offenders, causing some of the dirt to spill out onto the footpath.

Police also discovered that some signage had been removed from a work site in Wimmera Street and placed across the intersection to make it look like the road was blocked when it wasn't.

Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Bennett said the vandalism was very disappointing.

"Police are disappointed with the behaviour as there are enough issues with road safety and damage to public property, without people taking deliberate action to cause obstructions on roadways that serve no purpose whatsoever and are potentially dangerous to the public," he said.

If anyone witnessed either of these incidents or has any other information, they can contact Stawell Police on 5358 8222 or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
