Christmas cheer for probus ladies

STAWELL - Following a brief meeting at the Stawell Trackside Bar and Bistro, members of the Stawell Gold Reef Ladies Probus Club were entertained by the beautiful singing of Polish songs.

Known as 'The Pomonal Polish Singers', Halena and Ula sang a bracket of three Polish songs to an audience captivated by the superb harmonisation of the duo.

A delicious traditional Christmas dinner of turkey, ham and pork was served by the staff at the bistro and followed by a tasty serving of plum pudding for dessert.

Between meal courses Santa appeared, along with Mrs Claus and the elves who handed out a gift to all the ladies who have been good.

A Christmas cake made by Dot Simmons and decorated by Rae Smith, was cut and placed on the tables for members to have with a cuppa. Plenty of laughter and cheery chatter was a sure sign that everyone enjoyed their Christmas celebration.

Late in October, 36 Probus members and friends travelled by bus to Sovereign Hill.

Despite the cold weather conditions that night, everyone enjoyed the hotel meal and the show "Blood on the Southern Cross".

The ladies who attended the Melbourne Cup Day function at the Trackside Bistro had a fun day, especially those who had a win in the sweeps.

Guest speaker at the November meeting was Frank Stokes. Using a photographic presentation, Frank gave an interesting, informative and anecdotal talk describing the tour he and his wife Lorraine experienced in Turkey.

The annual November day trip to Melbourne by train provided the opportunity for people to choose their preferred activities to do in the city. Those who went to the Johnston Collection were very impressed.

The trip organisers are already planning a list of trips for next year. These include a social weekend at the Lakeside Caravan Park in Halls Gap, a two day trip 'Mystery of Rusty Springs', a nine or 10 day trip to the Cook Islands and a nine day trip to the Flinders Ranges.

Members have plenty to look forward to in the coming year!

There will be no guest speaker at the January meeting, instead a social morning will be held, giving members the opportunity to get to know each other better.
