 More questions than answers!

More questions than answers!

23 Oct, 2009 08:42 AM
Round two of the Stawell Tennis Club's Gift Hotel Saturday competition could paint a clearer picture or maybe toss up more questions than answers tomorrow when the three victors from last week's round face the three losing teams.

With just nine games the greatest winning margin in round one this season has the hallmarks of one of the most fiercely contested seasons for some time.

The Shane Freeland led Stawell Paintright heads the table and tomorrow will be confronted by Grampians Excavation, who will be looking to bounce back from their narrow loss to Mitre 10 last week.

Les McLeod and Scott Rathgeber will face off after both suffered disappointing starts to the season, with neither managing to grace the winner's circle.

This ensures an intriguing battle and whoever can get the ascendancy will go a long way to determining the overall result.

Tiarnie Oram and Tieran Vos were outstanding for Paintright last week and the return of Shane Field will only strengthen their line up.

Second placed Sign-On-Line tackles Murray Hart's Westlift on the hardcourts tomorrow.

Sign-On-Line's number three, the extroverted Robin Neilson, got under the skin of opposition players last week, while going through the day unbeaten, but unfortunately will be missing this week and that could pave the way for Westlift's Steve West and Doug Armstrong to assume control of the contest.

With a lot of experience and a steely resolve, Westlift will be hoping to open their account, but the husband and wife duo of Damian and Jenny Stevens, will attempt to continue their hot early form and ensure another Sign-On-Line victory.

The final match between WHK and Stawell Mitre 10 features a super clash which will be worth the price of admission alone when Jade Cross is pitted against the never say die attitude of Carol Hateley.

The supporting acts of both teams are just as entertaining.

For WHK there's the deft touch of Howard Dunn and power hitting of Kim Hutton, while Mitre 10's ensemble includes Natasha Hancock and the consistent Matt Dwyer, who convincingly won all his sets in round one.

This match will be no different to the other two and all appear as if they will go down to the wire.

Players are reminded it's a twilight round of tennis tomorrow with a 4pm start due to the Stawell Show and a barbecue tea will be provided throughout the evening.
