Col Dunn right on target

20 Nov, 2009 09:23 AM
Stawell shooter Colin Dunn has returned from the Victorian State Clay Target Carnival at Echuca with several impressive achievements in his grasp.

With 380 shooters coming from all over Australia competition was fierce over the three day carnival, however Wimmera shooters held their own with some positive shooting taking place.

Callawadda/Stawell's Dunn took his A-class shooting with him to be the open team high gun champion. He also managed to win the AA grade pair double rise after shooting a 96/100 and his North West Zone team (captained by Dunn) shot a magnificent 125/125 to take zone honours. It's also the first time a team has shot a clean 50 from each member.

The annual event which brings in the best of the best was also struck by the presence of Kaniva's Wayne Hawker, who had a telling few days by being part of Dunn's North West Zone team, being the overall winner in the AA grade 50 target pointscore championship for shooting a 66/66.

Jeparit shooter David Flavel made his mark in the veteran's 50 target double barrel with a top of the line score of 134/135.

Lisa Hawker was on target in the ladies section, firing a 332/400 to be the overall winner of the ladies high gun and also claiming the 25 pair double rise event with 45/50.

Serviceton junior pair Shayne and Megan Wallis made their older competitors stand up and take notice, both shooting their way to a third placing, Megan in the B grade pair double rise with her 46/60 and Shayne in the 50 target single barrel after shooting 44/50.

Next on the agenda for state clay target shooting is the Australian National Shoot in April at Wagga Wagga, where Col Dunn will be leading the Victorian team to a hopeful victory.
