STAWELL - It's all systems go for Nicholas Pridan in the lead up to his marathon, with donations exceeding his wildest expectations.
Donations for the 17 year old's charity run, named Project: Water have come in quickly, with Pridan quickly reaching his goal of $1000 and is now aiming for two thousand.
Pridan is thrilled by the support he has received from many local businesses, with many donating goods and services - not just money. "I am thrilled to have surpassed my goals and elated to exceed my expectations," Pridan said.
Among those to donate are the ANZ Bank, who contributed $100, David O Jones ($200) plus Stawell Tennis Club ($50).
Young's Sportspower have donated Pridan's shoes to be worn on his 42 kilometre marathon.
Grampians Community Health, where Pridan works, are sponsoring Pridan to the tune of $500 as well as organising the printing of Project: Water t-shirts and raffle tickets.
"Grampians Community Health have been fantastic," Pridan said.
Manager of ANZ Bank in Stawell, Shelly Chalmers said she received a letter from Pridan asking for a donation and decided to help.
"I think it's a very good cause and it's also helping our local community," Ms Chalmers said.
Pridan's next fundraising venture for his February 25 marathon is a raffle, with a $100 Mitre 10 voucher plus three selected hardware pieces, dinner for two at the Town Hall Hotel, $200 cash prize, a RetraVision travel bag and a gift voucher from Gold Reef Clothing all up for grabs.
Tickets will be $2 each, and there will also be wristbands available for $2 in support of Pridan's chosen charity, Charity: Water.
Pridan has been in training for the 42 kilometre trek that will start from just beyond Ararat Airport and finish at North Park football oval, home of the CKS Swifts who have been supportive of Pridan since his marathon plans emerged late last year.
He has been training with Keith Lofthouse, secretary of the Stawell Amateur Athletic Club as well as friend Liam Scott, who will accompnay him on the run.
"Liam has been great. He is very enthusiastic," Pridan said.
