Following on from the success of last year's St Arnaud Speed Trials Car Club is now calling for entries for the Michael Ford Quarter Mile to be held at the St Arnaud Airstrip on September 13 and 14.
The prestigious event is over 400 metres with at least six timed runs on each day and a reverse grid run with top 10 shoot out.
Cars run side by side and there are category trophies presented at the end of the two days to event class winners. Cars participating range from pre-war to modern.
There will also be an award for the fastest female driver of the meeting and a trophy for the fastest ute.
Racing starts at 11am each day with show and shine prizes. Historic, vintage, modern and hot rods are welcome to enter.
Although modelled on the Geelong speed trials this event is different as it is run under CAMS regulations and not ANDRA regulations which means a quarter mile event can be staged instead of an eighth mile event, however cars are limited to street/road or club registered cars with road rubber and also CAMS log book cars.
On the Saturday night at the St Arnaud Sporting Club, Melbourne rock and roll band the `Love Crystals' will perform from 8pm until midnight. The public and entrants will rock the night away.
``This has become an annual event for the district and gives the local economy a real boost,'' event secretary Hugh Radford said. ``There are very few Quarter Mile events of this type in western Victoria and there are thousands of people interested in motor sport. We are getting many entries and all surplus funds are going to the local hospital foundation.
``$500 has been raised for the foundation and $400 each for the local SES and the CFA branches that help out on the day. The event is also greatly supported by local businesses and the Lions Club who make this event possible,'' Mr Radford said.
Cars are required to be road or club registered or have a CAMS Logbook. Road registered cars need to be roadworthy and comply with CAMS regulations. All details are on the web page www.starnaud.net.au
Public entry is $15 per head with children under 16 years free. It will be a no alcohol family friendly event.
Entry places for competitors are available on the day, but must be in attendance before 10am on each day to run. Competitors can run on both days or just one.
