Swifts Football Netball Club has made a big move off the field in 2009, securing a number of awards recognising their hard working commitment to sport.
The club has received a prize package from McDonald's Family Restaurants after submitting their entry into the `Fly With The Pies' competition throughout Victoria for their under 14s team.
McDonald's owner Mike Rogers took it upon himself to personally invite all clubs from around the Wimmera into the competition, offering one lucky junior team a chance to train with the Collingwood Football Club.
Swifts secretary, Brian Barber was contacted by David Lionetti from McDonald's Victoria, to say Swifts were in the last 10. Although they didn't make the final cut they managed to secure a signed Collingwood jumper and Sherrin football, as well as a 40 litre drink dispenser.
While Brian an avid Magpies supporter would like to store these in his pool room, the signed items will be auctioned off sometime in the near future.
``It's great what McDonalds are doing with Collingwood, the under 14 and 17 boys will all benefit from this,'' Barber said.
The Wimmera exceeded all other regions with the number of entries received.
Late in the season Swifts achieved Bronze status in a new initiative of the AFL which commenced this year, as a promotion titled the `Quality Club Program'.
Swifts obtained their Bronze status by adopting policies and adapting and complying with regulations outlined in the program.
Some of the set criteria set out were Smoke Free and Racial/Religious Tolerance policies, compliance with Liquor Licence regulations, Food Premises registration, Accreditation of all coaches and players and management of all match day risks.
This recognition adds to the club's Good Sports Accreditation and its membership of The Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly.
The AFL Quality Club Bronze status commenced and was approved in July 2009 and is valid at this level for the seasons 2009, 2010 and 2011.
