Medals won and records fall

Stawell Little Athletic club members have continued to enjoy success, both at the club events and at open competitions.

Only 15 competitors braved heavy rain to attend last Thursday's events.

With the weather it was decided that a high jump coaching and competition session would be held indoors.

Atalia Chaplin, under nine girls cleared a height of 1.04 metres, almost her own height, to out jump even the older athletes present.

This clearly eclipsed the previous club record for under nine girls of 0.95 metres. This was a great effort off a shortened run up due to the confined space.

Helping keep the competition momentum going was Kura Paton and Cody Friend, who also jumped at a high standard.

Maryborough held its open day on Sunday, with 103 athletes in attendance and Stawell representatives had terrific success.

Under seven girls rising star Shaylah Oosterhuis entered four events, the 70, 100 and 200m sprints and the long jump and won all four events.

Up and coming field event specialist Sarah Little won gold medals in both the Under eight girls shot put and discus events, while achieving personal best in the long jump and 81 metes hurdles.

Jacob Oosterhuis' personal best jump in the long jump was good enough for a sliver medal and he ran brilliantly for a bronze medal in 100 metres for under nine boys.

Hayley Little also showed her field throwing potential with a silver medal in the under seven girls discus and achieved personal bests in the long jump and discus.

Stawell Little Athletes will send a strong contingent to travel to Ballarat next weekend for the regional championships, and on form would be hopeful of further success.
