The 2010 Australia Post Stawell Gift will reach the widest audience in its 129 year history.
This follows the announcement of a new partnership with Australia Network.
Australia Network will take two hours of live finals action on Easter Monday, including the semi finals and final of the Australia Post Stawell Gift.
Australia's international television service, Australia Network broadcasts 24/7 across Asia, the Pacific and the Indian sub-continent.
The service is currently available in 44 countries through a combination of free-to-air satellite, cable or via local re-broadcast across the Asia Pacific region, reaching some 22 million homes and achieving a monthly audience of around 5.4 million viewers.
In 2010, international viewers will have access to not only the Australia Post Stawell Gift final, but the six semi-final races and six other finals for men and women in events ranging from 120m to a mile.
The Australia Post Stawell Gift will join the likes of the V8 Supercars Championship Series, Super 14 Rugby, the AFL premiership season and Tour Down Under as Australian sporting exports via the network.
In 2009, the Australia Post Stawell Gift set a coverage record of 1.4 million viewers when a peak of 382,000 viewers on Network Ten, 43,000 via Foxtel, 17,200 via Austar and one million viewers in more than 5000 TABs, clubs and pubs via Sky Channel across the nation tuned in for the 12-second race.
Australia Post Stawell Gift marketing director David Culbert said the agreement with Australia Network was a huge boost for the Gift and the region.
``The Stawell Gift already receives more coverage than any other athletics event in Australia and this agreement will see that coverage expand even further,'' Mr Culbert said.
``Our news highlights already receive coverage in more than 100 countries, but to have the full two hour broadcast live throughout countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan and Singapore is another significant step forward.
``It's also a big win for the many expats who rely on the Australia Network to get their fix on what is happening at home.
``The coverage of the Australia Post Stawell Gift will precede the AFL match between Hawthorn and Geelong at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, so we would anticipate that many viewers across the region and in Australia will be tuning in to watch the broadcast from Central Park.''
Stawell Athletic Club president Charlie Baird said the agreement would add significantly to the economic benefits the region enjoys by hosting Australia's most famous footrace.
``To have Stawell and the Gift live on television screened across Asia is a big step forward,'' Mr Baird said.
``We already know that the event provides a massive cash injection for businesses throughout the region and this agreement means that the spotlight will shine on Stawell like never before.
``The Stawell Athletic Club is working very hard to ensure the Gift has a long and sustainable future in Stawell and we have a number of exciting announcements in store in the lead up to Easter.''
The 2010 Australia Post Stawell Gift carnival will be staged from Friday, April 2 to Monday, April 5.
The carnival kicks off with the Calcutta on Friday night and is followed by three days of thrilling racing, the Driscoll McIllree and Dickinson Ladies Day on the Saturday, Stawell Regional Health Family Day on Sunday and then stunning ladies day fashion and family entertainment on the Monday, culminating in the 129th running of the Australia Post Stawell Gift.
