More drilling success

10 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
STAWELL - Stawell-based gold exploration company Navarre Minerals Limited has announced more promising results from drilling at its Tandarra prospect near Bendigo.

The company announced a Reverse Circulation drill result of 24 metres at 2.5 grams of gold per tonne from a depth of 35m down-hole. This also includes 3m at 10.9 grams per tonne and 1m at 15.3 grams per tonne.

This result is from the first drill traverse across the Tomorrow Anticline as part of a 25,000 metre resource definition drill program at the Tandarra prospect.

Reverse Circulation resource definition drilling commenced in December as a follow up to recent high grade air-core drilling results in gold bearing quartz reefs below shallow cover at the Tandarra prospect. Data obtained from this Reverse Circularion program is intended to enable the estimation of a maiden mineral resource at Tandarra by the end of 2012.

"We are particularly pleased with the width of gold mineralisation intersected in RCT006 and its relatively shallow depth from 35m down-hole as it aligns with our concept target of a mineral resource that may be suitable to potential open pit mining," Navarre's Managing Director, Geoff McDermott said.

Navarre is targeting gold mineralisation below a thin veneer of sand and clay cover ranging in thickness from 20 to 50 metres.

RCT006 forms part of the first east-west drill traverse containing several RC drill holes designed to delineate quartz reef gold mineralisation across the Tomorrow Anticline.

Another three RC holes over a lateral extent of 60m have been drilled east of RCT006 to complete the first drill traverse with two of the holes (RCT007 and RCT008) intersecting significant quantities of limonite and hematite stained quartz veining (believed to be favourable for gold mineralisation). Assay results for these holes and a geological cross-section interpretation are expected in the coming weeks.

The company is also pleased with the intersection of a second reef occurring over a 19m down-hole interval from 135m in RCT006. This reef is considered to be associated with a prominent west dipping fault and confirms similarities with the Bendigo Goldfield and the presence of reef repetitions at depth.

An extensive 25,000 metre RC drilling program is underway at Tandarra which will be aided by the addition of a second drill rig in February.

"While we experienced some delays associated with contractor's equipment, we are now in full swing at Tandarra and we are looking forward to a busy program over the next few months," Mr McDermott said.

Navarre Minerals is expecting to release more results from the ongoing RC resource definition drilling program at the Tandarra prospect in the coming weeks.
