REGION - Northern Grampians Shire Council has welcomed the announcement of $571,570 worth of grants for five community and sporting groups affected by the January 2011 floods.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Hugh Delahunty attended a special event at the Stawell Gun Club, where he made the Flood Recovery Community Infrastructure Fund grant announcements.
Mayor Cr Dorothy Patton said the grants will help the five groups complete much-needed repairs to damaged infrastructure.
"The grant announcements shows that recovery from the floods of January 2011 has been a long process, which reflects just how much damage was caused," she said.
"The Council understands just how much this damage has impacted on our communities over the past 12 months and we are really glad the government has stepped in to assist some of our affected groups."
The Flood Recovery Community Infrastructure Fund was made available to local governments for flood repair work on private assets where there is a community benefit, such as club grounds, facilities and private open spaces.
The funded projects are:
Navarre Historical Society Museum - remove floor and silt under floor, re-stump building and install a new floor - $63,000.
Stawell Golf Club - repair erosion damage to drainage, paths and creek crossing points - $88,050.
Stawell Golf Club car park - design car park, reshape existing contours, install drainage and seal car park - $143,520.
Stawell Motor Sports Club - remove damaged wall, salvage wall units, buy new wall units, install retaining wall - $50,000.
Stoney Creek Stores, Halls Gap - remove damaged wall, salvage wall units, buy new wall units and install retaining wall - $235,500.
Stawell Gun Club - install new outfall pipe and rock breaching - $12,500.
