Fire Brigade hosting Southwestern titles

20 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
STAWELL - Stawell Urban Fire Brigade is hosting the major Southwestern Championships competition at North Park, Stawell this weekend.

Many brigades and their supporters from Corio, Drysdale, Geelong, West Wendouree and Warnnambool will compete against local brigades from Stawell, Ararat, St Arnaud, Horsham and Murtoa.

Around 400-500 people are expected to travel to Stawell for the event.

Tomorrow will see 12 junior teams from the south-western region compete in events including wet hose and dry marshall.

On Sunday 14 senior teams will contest hydrant and ladder races, hose and reel sixes and the big event, the Y coupling and ladder 8 competition.

Brigade captain Tim Hughes urged members of the general public to come along, with admission to the competition free.

Stawell's junior fire brigade team is expected to do well in its events and Mr Hughes said it would be great to see lots of home crowd support.

It will be a spectacular two days of Fire Brigade competition, with the running events beginning at 9.30am on both days.
