Dr Castle celebrates his final delivery

17 Nov, 2009 08:14 AM
The birth of Blake Robert Hyslop at Stawell Regional Health marked a significant milestone for Dr Norman Castle OAM.

Blake was born at Stawell on Wednesday, October 14 and is the final baby that Dr Castle will deliver.

Dr Castle commenced practice in Stawell on October 5, 1955 and during those fifty-four years has delivered approximately 4,000 babies.

During his training at the Queen Victorian Hospital in Adelaide, Dr Castle recalled being involved with 21 births on one particular day.

Blake's parents, Karen and Colin Hyslop, were delighted that acquaintance Scott Fraser was on hand to participate in the recording of this special occasion.

Scott Fraser was the first child delivered by Dr Castle in Stawell District Hospital on February 22, 1956.

Scott's parents, Scott (Senior) and Kath, were long time supporters of Stawell Hospital, conducting an Annual Old Time Charity Ball at the Callawadda Hall to raise funds for the hospital.
