Community garden annual meeting

20 Nov, 2009 09:13 AM
The annual meeting for the Stawell Community Garden will be conducted next Monday night at the Stawell Town Hall foyer.

The annual meeting will commence a 7pm and guest speaker will be Terry O'Donnell. Terry and his family have established a market garden and herb nursery in the old Jung Primary School.

Terry's family have established this garden in tandem with an increasing drought. This has effected and modified their methods of establishing their business and encouraged flexibility. Their garden is not certified, however they do use mainly organic measures, and see the need for more requirements in the future.

While the garden is not 100% organic, Terry uses his own items without creating an unhealthy environment. The family understands and acknowledges that an organic basis is the cornerstone of a healthy system. While using the organic theory predominantly and being `resource conscious' they are able to adapt a wider philosophy.

The Stawell Community garden is starting to take shape, but more people are needed to bring it to fruition.

A light supper will be provided following the annual meeting on Monday. RSVP to Grampians Community Health (reception) on 5358 7400 by today.
