Applications are now open for the Northern Grampians Shire Council Rural Grants Program.
The program aims to support and embrace local community solutions to cope with and respond to the ongoing effects of the drought.
Cr Ray Hewitt said the rural grants program would provide the opportunity for residents to organise functions and events to bring their community together.
``It's a great grants program to help relieve the effects of the drought by providing a chance to implement community programs. Events can bring people together and help communities to develop as a whole,'' Cr Hewitt said.
The Callawadda Progress Association received community drought funding earlier this year.
The money assisted them in putting on a great day to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Callawadda Hall.
Cr Kevin Erwin attended the celebrations and said the grant helped the day turn into a fully fledged event with more than 200 people gathering at the hall for a day of reminiscence.
``The grant was the difference between a small show and what turned out to be a really significant day. It was a top event and thoroughly enjoyed by all,'' Cr Irwin said.
Funding can be sought for many different kinds of projects by community groups and organisations.
The project should have the aim of strengthening rural community connections and uplifting and uniting individuals and families.
Organisations wishing to apply for a grant or receive a copy of the guidelines and one page application form are encouraged to contact Drought Recovery Officer, Emily Tyson, for more information by calling 5358 8700.
