The Shop in Stawell - Win $10,000 giveaway promotion commences tonight with the Stawell Hospital Y-Zetts shopping spree.
All shoppers will be able to start collecting their `Funny Money' in the promotion from tomorrow.
Conducted by StawellBiz and the Stawell Times News, the Shop in Stawell - Win $10,000 giveaway encourages people to shop in Stawell and give themselves the chance to share in the massive $10,000 in shopping vouchers up for grabs.
The promotion will once again be the feature of pre-Christmas shopping in Stawell and is an important event for all Stawell businesses and the community in general.
StawellBiz Chairman, Dave Kaczynski, said the promotion looked set to go to a new level this year, as businesses and shoppers take full advantage of the initiative.
``It is a fantastic initiative that benefits the shoppers as well as the businesses,'' Mr Kaczynski said.
``We want people in Stawell to shop locally leading up to Christmas and this is a great incentive for them to do that.
``By supporting local businesses, shoppers are giving themselves the chance to share in $10,000 worth of shopping vouchers.''
Inika Imports, a relatively new business that has just relocated to 52 Main Street, has signed on as a major sponsor for the promotion this year.
Mr Kaczynski said he was delighted to see business owners Michelle and Michael Rathgeber sign on as major sponsor.
``It is great for a new business to want to be major sponsor for the promotion and we thank Michelle and Michael very much for their support,'' he said.
Mrs Rathgeber said when the opportunity arose, it wasn't a difficult decision to support such a promotion that encourages people to shop locally.
``It is a big thrill for us to be involved in the promotion, which is great for the town. When people support their local businesses, they are also giving themselves a chance to share in great prizes.
``For shoppers to be given a chance to share in $10,000 worth of vouchers to spend right here in Stawell, I think it is a great initiative and one we are delighted to be involved in.''
The Hospital Y-Zetts shopping spree kicks of the promotion tonight, with the major draw being conducted outside Fishers IGA Supermarket in Main Street on Wednesday, December 23.
This draw will coincide with extended trading on the Wednesday night, with the major prizes drawn at 7pm.
During the promotion, shoppers are given `Funny Money' to the equivalent value of their purchase at all participating businesses. This `Funny Money' however is capped at $5000.
Once they have accumulated $100 in `Funny Money' customers then exchange this for a $100 entry form. This entry form qualifies the shopper to be eligible to win part of the $10,000 in shopping vouchers up for grabs in the promotion.
Once again both supermarkets in Stawell, Fishers IGA and Safeway Stawell, will be involved in the giveaway as promotion partners and promotion sponsors.
The supermarkets have always been involved in the promotion in this capacity, but because of the volume of shopping involved and the staff being busy over the Christmas period, management at both agreed it would be too difficult and too demanding to expect the staff to hand out `Funny Money' to every customer.
However, in an initiative to ensure customers from the two supermarkets are able to enter the draw as many times as possible for their chance to share in the shopping vouchers, it was decided to introduce the docket trade and this will continue for the 2009 giveaway.
Shoppers need to gather their dockets from either supermarket to the value of $100 and bring them into the office of the Stawell Times News to exchange them for a $100 entry form.
Only dockets from the supermarkets having a value in multiples of $100 can be exchanged for an entry form.
Minor prize draws for $200 worth of shopping vouchers will be conducted on December 4, 11 and 18. The main draw for the remainder of prizes, including the major prize of $5000 in shopping vouchers, will then be conducted on Wednesday, December 23 to coincide with late night trading.
Second prize will be $2000 in vouchers, third is for $1000, fourth $500, fifth $500, sixth $200 and seventh $200.
